About Us

Jo & Howie originate from the UK and came as back packers to New Zealand in 2007. They spent a year travelling around both islands before deciding to get residency and settling in Whitianga on the Coromandel.

Both of them have a background in hospitality and so they purchased a seafood restaurant and ran it successfully for 10 years selling up just before the covid pandemic began.

Who we are:

After 12 years on the Coromandel they decided to have a change of scenery and made the move south to Canterbury where they purchased a lifestyle block near the town of Lincoln in February 2021. Jo & Howie love their new life of warm summers and frosty winters and appreciate spending time on their quiet block with all the animals enjoying the surroundings and the views towards the Port Hills.

They have always wanted to create a business on their own land and when Howie, who was working as a chef in Christchurch, struggled to find a reliable supply of fresh herbs and edible flowers it prompted them to start Little Lake Growers. The name comes from the beautiful little lake that nestles in their picturesque garden.

Jo has previously studied organic horticulture and environmental science and is deeply passionate about regenerative agricultural and horticultural practices. She loves nothing more than to be out pottering around the property with her two dogs Milo and Baxter in tow.

They actively encourage nature onto the farm by planting wildflowers and native trees and allowing beneficial plants to flourish. Jo creates homemade composts and herbal teas to feed the herbs and flowers and the soil and they limit the use of use synthetic fertilisers, pesticides or fungicides as they believe that by increasing biodiversity and supporting the growing systems naturally, nature will take care of itself.

Jo & Howie are still very new to their growing journey but they look forward to sharing their experiences with you along the way.
